Discover Vandellòs i L’Hospitalet de l’Infant
Vandellòs, inland, but not too far from the sea, is only 270 metres above sea level. However, the town is surrounded by mountains on all four sides and invites you to walk and climb up the mountain to get fabulous views of both the coast and the interior. The old town has a clearly medieval network of streets, and in fact there is already evidence of its existence in the Middle Ages as the Vall del Llorer, from which its name comes. It is not surprising, therefore, that its history tells us of ancient times, of battles and even of prehistoric men who left news of their passage in caves and caves recognised as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
Villages in the Municipality
-
L'Almadrava
12 km south of Hospitalet de l’Infant, past the Balaguer pass, we find Almadrava, a village of white houses on the coast line, where just over 50 people live. As you can imagine, this small village owes its name to the almadrava, a traditional fishing instrument used to catch tuna and other migratory fish. We are in a land of fishermen, and this is what the popular memory of the place tells us. Almadrava has one of the quietest sandy beaches on the Costa Daurada, urban, provided with services and long (1,600 meters long).

L’Hospitalet de l’Infant
The towns of L’Hospitalet de l’Infant and Vandellòs are part of the same administrative municipality, which does not mean that they are identical. This is not the case. L’Hospitalet de l’Infant is by the sea, a town touched by the breeze and bathed by the waves, while Vandellòs is a little further inland, inland, as if they were two sides of the same coin. The coast of L’Hospitalet has practically virgin beaches where you can hear the sound of the waves while breathing the air of the valley, while the beaches closest to L’Hospitalet are a marvel of facilities and services. As if all this were not enough, L’Hospitalet has been a land of welcome since ancient times. In fact, the name of the town comes from the medieval hospital that was built to welcome pilgrims and pedestrians.
-
Masboquera
This small town, with only 83 inhabitants, is one of the five population centres that make up the administrative municipality of Vandellòs i l’Hospitalet de l’Infant. A typical Mediterranean inland town with low houses and narrow streets, Masboquera is an ideal place to start various routes on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback. In the centre is one of its most characteristic architectural elements: the Torre de les Hores, in the middle of the town, which invites us to walk along a series of routes.
-
Masia de Castelló
The 1950s saw small towns gradually become depopulated due to the emigration that took place in the rural world. La Masia de Castelló is one of these places but, paradoxically, and contrary to what has happened in other cases, La Masia de Castelló has been gradually recovering, thanks to its lovers and former neighbors, and today it is a town that comes to life at various times of the year with activities such as the Rústic Festa or the Pessebre dels estels.
-
Masriudoms
Masriudoms, with just over 100 inhabitants, is another of the population centres in the municipality of Vandellòs and l’Hospitalet de l’Infant. It is located on the way inland, as you move away from the coast, and it is almost obligatory to stop there to admire its Romanesque church (from the 13th century), with a bell tower that, originally, was a medieval defense tower, listed as a Cultural Asset of National Interest. Rural life of all times can also be felt and experienced in the washerwomen of Plaça de la Font, a testament to when laundry was public.
