Arenal and Torn beaches of l'Hospitalet receive the prize Ecoplayas Flag 2015

The award ceremony took place on November 27 in Málaga

The Playa del Arenal has received Ecoplayas Flag 2015 award in the category of "Coastal Beache"; and Playa del Torn, within the category of "Renewal", because last year already received this distinction. With this award, the Technical Association for Waste Management and Environment (ATEGRUS) has recognized the quality of these beaches of L'Hospitalet de l'Infant from an environmental, tourism and sustainability view.

The ceremony for the awards, namely the Ecoplayas flag and the corresponding diploma, took place on November 27 in Malaga, in the framework of the XVII International Congress and Exhibition of beaches- Ecoplayas 2015. In this event, held on Alboraina Museum, they attended by the Mayor of Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant, Alfons Garcia; and the Councillor for Tourism and Beaches, Elida Lopez.

The jury of the X Ecoplayas Flag Awards 2015, consisting of experts from ATEGRUS and other relevant personalities, appreciated the good work of the City Council in the management of these beaches, based on criteria of sustainability and tourism development. Among the factors taken into account when granting these awards, is that of being in possession of certifications and awards such as the Blue Flag and EMAS certification; the water quality, clean beaches, functionality and quality of services, accessibility; and lifeguard, among others. In the case of the Playa del Arenal, the jury was particularly impressed "underwater routes have been opened, in order to inform the natural wealth of the sea area surrounding the beach."

ATEGRUS makes an annual call for nominations for the awards, in which functional concepts of aesthetic excellence in tourism, services and sustainability are assessed. These awards to all municipalities or supranational entities beach, both coastal and inland (river beaches, lakes or reservoirs) are addressed. In this edition of the awards, the City Council presented the candidacy of the Arenal Beach in the category of "Coastal Beaches"; and Playa del Torn in the "Renewal".

Keep in mind, as stated in the rules of the Awards, that municipalities can only present the awards for editing a single beach in the category of "coastal beach". Last year, the City Council presented the candidacy of Playa del Torno for the award in this category for the first time; and he succeeded. This year, the renowned nudist beach could opt to renew the award and has obtained, for the jury praised the developments over the past year (maintenance of the strengths and improvement).
