The mountains of Tivissa paths Sant Blai

The source, the chapel and the cross of Sant Blai: these are the three objectives of this route Ribera d'Ebre. It is a short route and grateful to discover the legends of Sant Blai while we contemplate the landscape of this untamed corner of the county.

Before making the trek did not know that Sant Blai saved the life of a child by removing a thorn that had stuck in his throat, nor that around the chapel was painted the first brand GR 7 The first long route of the Iberian Peninsula.

For these stories and walk through the mountains of Tivissa, we look at the starting point of the route, at the top of the village of Tivissa. After the sports area in front of the local firefighters find a paved road makes a steep ascent. At the end of a landmark encounter with the first signal indications and the red and white GR 7.

Let the asphalt of the city and enter a path well signposted in a mountainous area, with different types of shrubs, rosemary, thyme and lavender, oak, pine and oak. Step by step, stepping on different sections of the old cobbled traditional bridle path linking the village to the church, we are moving closer to the nucleus and idyllic, bright green, with impressive rocks as Vegetables playing rock.

After finding a wider track, we come to a nice picnic in the shelter of the rocks traversed by water running down the stream ravine San Blas, forming a series of channels and pools. A little further up is the source of San Blas, where fresh water flows almost always good to make a shot or fill your canteen.

The route follows the GR 7 and up a path that makes shortcut to the chapel, rather than follow the traditional path that climbs zigzags along a trail flanked by cypress trees. Then you get to the chapel, nineteenth century, a curious sundial on the wall and located in a very nice place, with a few tables where you can make a meal outdoors.
After contemplating the building plaque reminds hikers who in 1975 painted the first brand GR , then climb the stairs and followed a path that leads to the cross of San Blas. From here , the view over the village and surrounding Tivissa is spectacular.

The return can be made along the same path or ( if you want to walk a little ) taking the PR ( yellow and white ) leaves from the fountain of Sant Blai and climbing up and down the neck Monegret way the Llena .
